Erected in honor of Emperor Constantine, after battle to defeat Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge in 315 AD. Constructed of spolia stripped from earlier imperial monuments dedicated to Trajan (112) and Hadrian (128) Inscription: "Constantine overcame his enemies by divine inspiration"
